Hanzi Sprout is a character-learning tool for children who already understand and say some Mandarin but do not read the characters yet. The free part needs no account and no payment; the full version is a single one-time payment, not a subscription, and nothing renews.
Two options
Every image animation and every pronunciation in the library opens up, and the parent’s marks follow the account across devices. This is the early-bird price: pay once and characters added to this library afterwards are included too, at no extra cost.

The recovery code is shown only once here. We also send it to your payment email — after changing devices or clearing your browser, it unlocks everything again without a second payment.
Payment is handled by PayPal. We never see or store your card number. Once payment succeeds, the page shows the unlock straight away and sends the receipt and recovery code to your payment email.
What the full version includes
- Image animations for the full library — 122 characters are live, one short animation each, from the word your child already says back to the written character. The library keeps growing.
- Mandarin pronunciation audio for every character — replayable on its own, so a parent can read along.
- The parent’s own recognition marks — we store which character and when it was marked, nothing else. No assessment and no report.
- Works on your next device — sign in and the marks follow the account; the recovery code from your purchase re-unlocks everything on any device.
Scope: what you buy is access to one “full library” — every character already live, plus characters added to this library afterwards, at the price you paid. Comics, picture books, stories, AI features, courses, and separate apps or mini-programs would be new product lines and are not part of this purchase.
Note: “Recognized” here is only a progress note the parent keeps. It does not mean the child has mastered the character, and it is not a claim about learning outcomes.
What happens after you pay
- Press the PayPal button on this page and confirm the one-time payment with your own PayPal account. PayPal shows the item name “Hanzi Sprout Founder / Early Access” and the amount.
- Once the payment is confirmed, this page shows the unlock and a recovery code straight away, and the receipt goes to the email you paid with.
- The full library is usable on this device immediately. On another device, sign in with the same email or enter the recovery code to bring it back.
Refunds
If it is not right for you, send the form below within 14 days of payment. No reason needed. Once we have checked it, the full amount goes back through PayPal; how long it takes to appear is up to PayPal, usually a few working days. The full-version access then ends at the same time.
If you were charged twice, or paid and never got access, write to us directly and we will deal with it first.

Seller information
This site is run by Hanzi Sprout (芽芽学汉字), and payments are collected through a PayPal account. What is sold is access to digital content: the full library unlocks on this site after payment, and nothing physical is shipped.
Payment is in US dollars (USD). If your PayPal account uses another currency, the amount actually settled and any conversion fee are handled by PayPal under their own rules.
