What does 口 mean?
口 (kǒu) is the character for mouth — the word your child may already say out loud. This page is about the written form of a word they know, not a new word to memorise.
What the animation does
It starts from the meaning a child already has and ends on the character as it is written. That is what every animation in this library does: connect the word they say to the character they see. It is a way to make a character feel familiar — not a claim about where the character came from historically.
Try it with your child
- Say mouth out loud together first — the word they already know.
- Play the animation once and say nothing. Let them watch it.
- Play it again and stop on the last frame: that is 口.
- Later in the day, point at the character and ask what it says. If they do not remember, nothing is lost — try again another time.
Where you might meet 口 in real life
Signs, picture books, food packaging, shop fronts, maps — characters turn up in more places than we notice. Once your child knows this one, they will start spotting it. Pointing it out in the world is exactly how a learned character becomes a kept one.
